Tesla Solar Roof is coming to Canada and Europe
Tesla is planning to extend its Solar Roof product to Canada and Europe, which could happen this year, according to CEO Elon Musk. The Solar Roof had a rough start early on in its rollout.
The automaker had to test for longevity, tweak the template for quicker installation, ramp up production, and lower costs.
Things started to turn around last year as Tesla modified the form of underlay that it used for its solar roof tiles and also reduced the price of the commodity.
The organization has also stepped up the hiring of roofers to accelerate the deployment of solar roofs, which have begun to display results over the last two quarters.
The deployment of the product was limited to the US, but now CEO Elon Musk has provided us with an idea of the timetable for the expansion of new markets.
Musk said that Tesla will be launching the Solar Roof in Canada this year.
However, Canada is a big country, and we’ve only seen solar roof jobs in the Toronto area, and before that grows, we can expect supply to be minimal.
Musk also said that Tesla would be able to introduce a solar roof in Europe later this year, but he seemed less sure about it.
Tesla’s expansion of solar roofs in other markets will be limited not only by the production of tiles at Gigafactory New York, but also by Tesla’s ability to employ installers.
While Tesla is also qualifying third-party roofing companies to install solar roof tiles, which will allow faster deployment.
