One of those funny electric velomobiles or e-bike/pedal-car hybrids looks like another. Yet neither is the LEF. Instead, without even a hint of pedals, it’s a micro EV. Riders simply pop the jet-style canopy of the bomber, climb into the upright seat and take off with the throttle. To make entering and leaving smoother, the handlebars also withdraw out of the way.
No pedals are available, which means this is a fully electric car. The LEF is much more streamlined than other bike-car hybrids we have seen before, without having the space for a complete pedal arc up front. The LEF, built by EV Mobility, based in the Netherlands, has the all-weather benefit of an enclosed car, but the compact footprint of a pedal vehicle.
And the LEF is currently rated to bear up to 200 kg considering its limited stature (440 lb). With 50L of storage capacity behind the passenger, until reaching the weight limit, most users would likely run out of storage volume. The organization describes the three-wheeled LEF as being safer and more convenient than conventional bicycles and scooters.
Although a two-rear wheel tricycle configuration is notoriously unreliable in high-speed curves, the constitutionally required maximum speed of 25 km/h (15.5 mph) of the LEF means that you will actually not be able to corner too violently anyway. However, the top rating of 1,000 watts of power per rear wheel can also offer reasonable output for acceleration and hill climbing.
The lower top speed allows the tiny EV to provide the city with plenty of range. A regular battery of 48V and 10Ah has a range of up to 30 km (18 miles). The LEF will accommodate two additional battery packs for still more range to raise riders up to 90 km (55 miles) from the combined 1.44 kWh power.
