Tesla had 400,000 Storm Watch activations
In 2021, Tesla had 400,000 Storm Watch activations on Powerwall battery packs, according to the company. In the event of severe weather, the function assists households in avoiding power interruptions. Tesla began incorporating features for Powerwall and solar customers into its mobile app for vehicle owners in 2018. A year later, the business launched a new ‘Storm Watch’ to identify storms and prepare for power disruptions by storing energy.
The function rapidly proved handy, as Tesla Powerwall owners in Queensland, Australia, claimed that the feature was triggered ahead of a hurricane approaching. Tesla then utilized the feature to help ‘hundreds’ of Powerwall users affected by wildfires in California.

- Hurricane (watch or warning)
- Tropical storm (watch or warning)
- Red flag (warning)
- Thunderstorm or severe thunderstorm (warning)
- Tornado (warning)
- Winter storm (warning)
- Blizzard (warning)
- High wind (warning)
- Ice storm (warning)
- Snow squall (warning)
- Wind chill (warning)
- Wind (advisory)
Part of the reason for the huge figure is the growth in the number of Powerwalls placed in the last year. Tesla said last year that it has installed over 250,000 Powerwalls throughout the world.
