A press release from Hyundai USA released a preview of the 2022 Kona Hybrid SUV, featuring a minor refresh. According to the automaker, some time this season, these EVs will be eligible in the US.

Kona Electric made its debut in Korea and Europe for the first time in 2018, before launching in the United States as a 2019 model. It was actually the first Hyundai SUV available in the USA with a fully-electric powertrain. It’s also the first EV to drive up to the base camp of Mount Everest. It may be a relatively young EV, but its worldwide sales have almost doubled every year since its release.

One of the first updates to leap out on the new Kona Electric is the new front fascia. The former dimpled grid has been replaced by minimalist, aerodynamic smoothness. As you can see in the reference picture below, the silver trim was replaced by a conspicuous horizontal character line directly below the Hyundai badge. This is situated below the Daytime Lights

Below that, the lower fender was re-engineered to be more aerodynamically efficient and sporty. Moving around the body, Hyundai’s 2022 Kona Electric resides on a modern alloy wheel platform, tuned for airflow. In the back, the bumper fascia also saw a redesign that “carries the lower valance strake elements to the rear of the vehicle.” Newly designed LED taillights are also present on the 2022 models.

Truly, there’s not much to say in the current Kona Electric relative to the 2021 edition. Hyundai’s 2022 Kona Electric will see upgrades to its center stack and center cluster displays, providing 10.25′′ screens in each region. This is a major improvement to the 7′′ central touchscreen and dash monitor currently available on the 2021 model.
