The last year was remarkably good for Electric vehicles. But several of the cars that were due to be launched in 2020 have fallen to the next year. New innovations are also emerging in. 2021 that would drive the EV market even forward in the right direction. Here are some of the most important things to look out for in the world of electric vehicles in 2021.

  1. Rimac C_Two

Several hybrid hypercars are inevitable – both Lotus Evija and Pininfarina Battista look fantastic, and there’s even Tesla’s new Roadster. But the Croatian Rimac C Two, if he delivers on his words, will be the one to beat. Rimac boasts a top speed of 258mph and 0-60mph in 1.85 seconds from the C Two 1.900hp engine. These figures are ahead of the competition and may mean that the C Two would also give fossil-fueled hypercars like the Bugatti Chiron something to worry about, particularly in a drag race.

  1. Tesla Model S Plaid

Rimac C Two will demonstrate exactly what is possible with EVs today, but at a starting price of €2 million ($2.45 million), nobody will get the opportunity to test it out. More mainstream – if you call a reasonable $132,990 – will be the Tesla Model S Plaid, planned for late 2021. Slotting above the Output variant of the S, the Plaid offers a surprising acceleration of less than two seconds to 60mph, a maximum speed of 200mph, and maybe perhaps more importantly, a range of more than 520 miles on a single charge. The latter is expected to be the result of a bigger 120kWh battery (the latest model is 100kWh) paired with some of the emerging innovations revealed on Battery Day 2020. When Plaid arrives, it could be the fastest-accelerating production car on the market. And there’s already a hatchback with plenty of space for four adults.

  1. Nissan Ariya

Nissan was the pioneer of the Leaf battery EV market, which had just celebrated its tenth anniversary. While the car is beginning to look a little jaded, despite having been substantially updated since its original iteration, Nissan has a new hybrid flagship waiting in the wings. The Ariya will arrive in 2021, with a very wide variety of offers. Pricing has not yet been revealed, however with a WLTP range of up to 310 miles and a speed of up to 0-60mph in 5.1 seconds, Ariya may be an electric SUV that prevents Tesla Model Y from totally controlling the market.
